Thanks to Larry Strawderman for setting up Shenandoah County Library System Night and having a great banner that included handprints and signatures of players and kids. Becky Kipps and Diane Cary for children’s handouts and goodies. Barbara Feichtinger for setting up a book sale. Lots of great teamwork!!

I fear this may be a bad idea. It may simplify work at County, but I suspect it could result in many non-County books ending up in courier boxes headed to Edinburg, which upon arrival will have to be turned around and sent back. Inattentive volunteers filing books are likely to see the Shenandoah County Library stamp on the edge and react accordingly and overlook the library name on the bar code. This apparent inconsistency of library book stewardship could cause problems.

Donna has been incredibly helpful when we run into problems. I know we will miss her as we go forward. She has guided us through so many changes. I know the other circulation volunteers at Fort Valley would want me to express all of our appreciation to Donna.

Did I miss understand something about the Dr. S party? Isn’t this a creature of the schools and it just happens to take place at the library?
At Strasburg, I noticed several teachers hurrying to leave at 4:30. There were four of our volunteers cutting cake, cooking eggs, etc. I saw teachers participating at only one site, the hat making table.
I am not on the committee that organizes this event but have attended several as a photographer for my library. This year, it looked to me as though there were very few teachers involved.

Rob,
I don’t have a problem with raising copy fees, though I would rather see fine charges raised. Why raise copy fees and let negligent book borrowers continue to pay low fines? Or, maybe raise them both? Given budget problems, I think it would be a fairly easy sell to the public. A few people will always complain, but most would quickly adapt and the increases would soon cease to be an issue. I would support raising either one or both.
