Through the Morrison Studio Lens

The Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives will host its annual Black History Month at 7:00PM, Wednesday February 15 2023.

This program "Through the Morrison Studio Lens" will focus on photographs of African Americans in our community produced by Woodstock's Morrison Studio led by photographers Hugh, Louis, and James Morrison. During the 20th century this studio was the primary photographer in the community and over 30,000 images survive. Several hundred of these images are of local African American community members. By examining these images, the identified subjects contained within them, and contextual information we can learn about the lives of African Americans in Shenandoah County during this period.

The event will be held in the County Library's Activity Room located on the east side of the library building, 514 Stoney Creek Blvd. Edinburg Virginia. The presentation will also be live streamed via the Library's Facebook page.

The County Library offers a weekly School-Ager Story Time every Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM. School-aged kids, approximately ages 5-10, are invited to join us for longer read-alouds, great nonfiction titles, and even chapter book recommendations! This program will appeal to homeschoolers, preschool storytime graduates, and public school friends on holiday breaks.
Books & Babies meets Thursday mornings at 10:30 AM and is designed to engage infants 24 months and younger with their caregivers. At Books and Babies we read one short book, sing many songs, recite nursery rhymes, and play with puppets. At all our storytimes we make some noise and move around!

All children and their families are welcome at our storytime programs.  Call the library at (540) 984-8200 if you have any questions.
